Ball and Chain

The first idea for a game I have is one where the player uses a flail like weapon for multiple interactions.  The flail is acts as a grappling hook that the player can use to navigate the world. It would have two modes: attack and grapple. The player could easily switch between them and use the momentum gained from swinging around to deal more damage with the flail. They would be able to either shorten the flail by bringing it towards them or by bringing themselves towards the flail end.

The game would be for people who like fast moving action games that require the player to think on their feet. Ideally the game play will allow for movement and attacking to flow together so people who enjoy mastering  movement mechanics like rocket jumping or surfing would have fun with this game.

For this unit the focus of the prototype would be almost entirely on game play. If it is fun to move around and swing the weapon in simplistic levels then it means that it is worth expanding out into more complicated levels and enhancing the art style. Once better levels, graphics and story components are added it would just be an enhancement to the game play.

Mirrored World

The second idea I've had was to have a game where their were two "worlds" connected to each other, one upside down and on the bottom of the other. The player would have to switch between the two worlds and perform actions in one world to effect the other. This could be as simple as puling a lever in a world to make a bridge in another or moving a block that cannot be moved in the other world. They would have to be aware of the general layout of both worlds at once and use their problem solving skills to work towards the end of the levels.

The game would be for people who like puzzle platformers and  puzzle games in general. This game will give them a chance to test their skills by working in a way that makes them aware of multiple levels at once.

The level design would be the main focus of this prototype. As a puzzle game the levels are what provides a challenge to the player. The game play itself would just be simple controls so the levels need to be stimulating in order for players to have fun.
